A disposable exfoliating towel is a single-use nonwoven towel that spas use at the end of a mud, clay or seaweed body treatment. Dampened with warm water and laid over the dried mask, it softens the mask so the therapist can wipe it away instead of scrubbing it off. One towel covers one area of one client, then goes in the bin, so nothing has to be laundered between appointments.

This guide is for operations and purchasing teams at day spas, massage centers and hotel spas, and for the spa supply distributors who serve them. It covers how a spa towel differs from a reusable Korean scrub towel, how therapists use it, how many each client uses, and how to stock it. The example used is the NIKITA NK8106. For the other items a treatment room runs on, see our guide to salon and spa disposables.

How Is a Spa Exfoliating Towel Different From a Korean Scrub Towel?

Search for an exfoliating towel and most results are reusable scrub towels for home use. A spa body-treatment towel does a different job in a different way.

Reusable scrub towel (Korean or Italy towel) Disposable exfoliating towel (spa)
Typical material Woven nylon or polyester, sometimes viscose Nonwoven plant fiber and polyester (NK8106)
How it is used Rubbed firmly over wet skin, often with soap Dampened, laid over a dried mask, then wiped in one direction
What does the work Friction Warm water softening the mask, then the towel lifting it away
Who uses it The same person, again and again One client, one treatment
After use Rinsed, hung to dry, replaced when worn Into the bin; nothing to launder

A home scrub towel belongs to one person and is used for months. A spa treatment towel is used once per client, so there is nothing to wash, dry and fold before the next appointment, and the treatment room is ready again sooner.

Bath sponges, shower puffs and bed-bath wipes for patient care are separate items again; the FAQ below points to the care version.

What Does a Disposable Exfoliating Towel Do in a Body Treatment?

Once a mud or clay body mask has set, it does not rinse off easily, and an ordinary cloth towel tends to drag over the dried layer, scatter flakes across the bed and pick up the mask’s color. A disposable exfoliating towel takes a different route: dampened with warm water, it softens the solid mask so it can be wiped away, and the skin is then rinsed with clean water.

In the product name, “exfoliating” refers to the treatment category, body exfoliation and mask removal, rather than to any effect on the skin.

The NK8106 soft exfoliating towel measures 30 × 60 cm (about 12 × 24 in) and comes 50 to a pack. It is a white spunlace nonwoven of plant fiber and polyester with a textured surface. It carries SGS results for formaldehyde, heavy metals, E. coli and migrating fluorescent agents, and it is made in Taiwan.

How Should Therapists Use It to Remove a Mud or Clay Body Mask?

These steps cover the removal stage of a body-mask treatment. Adapt them to your spa’s own protocol.

  1. Before the treatment, lay a soft waterproof bed sheet on the treatment bed, absorbent side up and film side down, under the area the mask will cover.
  2. When the mask has set, dampen one towel with warm water and wring it out until it is damp but not dripping.
  3. Lay the towel flat over the dried mask on one area, such as the back or one leg, and hold it there briefly so the water softens the mask.
  4. Wipe the towel across the area in one direction, folding it to a clean side as it loads, so the softened mask comes away on the towel instead of falling onto the bed.
  5. Rinse the area with clean water, in the shower or, in a dry room, with warm water and a fresh damp towel, as the spa’s protocol directs.
  6. Pat the skin dry with a disposable spa towel, then fold the used towels inward and drop them into the bin.

The product page sums up the method the same way: dampen the towel with warm water, apply it gently to soften the solid mud mask, then rinse with clean water. The towel does not dissolve in water, so do not flush it.

Whether a treatment suits a particular client is for the therapist and the spa’s own protocol to decide.

How Many Towels Does a Client Use, and How Should a Spa Stock Them?

As a planning assumption, one towel covers one area. A full-body mask typically uses three to four towels (back, both legs, arms and front), and a back-only treatment one to two. Each spa should confirm its own count by watching a few treatments.

Monthly use follows directly: towels per month = body-mask treatments per month × towels per treatment. For example, with assumed numbers, 200 full-body treatments a month at four towels each is 800 towels, or 16 packs of 50.

A body-mask treatment uses three disposables in sequence, and stocking them together keeps each treatment room complete:

Step Item Pack
Under the client NK8306 soft waterproof bed sheet, 80 × 150 cm 10 per pack, 20 packs per carton
Mask removal NK8106 soft exfoliating towel, 30 × 60 cm 50 per pack
Drying skin and hair NK8207 disposable spa towel, 30 × 75 cm 100 per pack, 11 packs per carton

For how the cost of disposable towels compares with laundering cloth towels, see disposable vs reusable salon towels.

What Should Spa Buyers and Distributors Check Before Ordering?

A few checks make sure the towel fits the treatment before you commit to volume:

  • Size against the body area. A 30 × 60 cm towel covers the back or one leg in a single pass.
  • Feel and strength when wet. Trial samples in your own treatments, with your own masks, before standardizing.
  • Pack count against usage. Match the 50-piece pack to how quickly each treatment room uses towels.
  • Documents. NK8106 carries SGS results for formaldehyde, heavy metals, E. coli and migrating fluorescent agents, and the report is available on request.

Distributors can sell the three items as a treatment-room set (waterproof bed sheet, exfoliating towel and drying towel) and reorder by treatment count. The full range of spa and salon solutions is grouped by treatment room.

FAQ

Can a disposable exfoliating towel be reused?

No. It is designed for single use: the side that lifted the mask is already loaded, so each client gets a fresh towel.

Is it the same as a disposable washcloth for bed baths?

No. Bed baths for patients in care use a different product, such as the G Dolphin HU8201 dry bath wipe. For care-facility use, see our guide to disposable washcloths.

Can it be used on the face?

It is sized and textured for the body. For the face, spas use disposable face towels; see our guide to disposable face towels.

Why are there small non-white specks in the towel?

The product page notes that natural fibers may contain small non-white particles, such as cottonseed hulls. This is a natural characteristic and does not affect use.
